Visitors: Our building is located at the junction of Queen Victoria Road and Claremont Road. Maps are available above which illustrate how to reach us on foot. Our building is no. 51 on the University map. It takes approximately 5-10 minutes to walk from the Haymarket Metro station to our building, and approximately 20-25 minutes from Central Station.
If travelling by taxi, it is recommended you ask to be taken to the junction of Queen Victoria Road and Claremont Road. Our offices are located in Ridley 1 Building (taxi drivers may find it helpful to know we are opposite the skatepark in Exhibition Park).
Private transport: from the north or south, follow the A1 towards Newcastle. Leave the A1 (Western Bypass) at the junction with the A167/A696 and follow signs for the 'City Centre'. Take the A167 exit marked exactly 'Universities and Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)' which brings you on to Claremont Road, where there is a public car park (approximately 1 minute walk from the building). Please note that parking is not normally available on the University site.
If you turn left at Claremont Road roundabout there is a public car park on the left hand side. Alternatively there is limited parking on Claremont Road (by turning right at the roundabout rather than eft). Once you arrive at Ridley 1 Building, please report to reception on the third floor.
East Coast Mainline, Virgin and Transpennine trains stop at Newcastle Central Station, which is a five minute taxi ride (the nearest major landmark to tell taxis to take you to is the entrance to the Medical School, then follow the directions above). Alternatively, you can take the Metro from Central Station to Haymarket (two stops), which is adjacent to the University.
Newcastle International Airport is only about seven miles north west of Newcastle University. A taxi from the Airport will take about 15 minutes, costing approximately £12. You can also travel by Metro train to the Haymarket, which will take about 25 minutes and cost around £3 for a single and £4.60 for a return. The University is adjacent to Haymarket Metro Station and there are maps on campus, or telephone us as above.
Newcastle Coach Station is the main coach station for long distance journeys, and most intercity coaches terminate or drop off here. It is located near Central Station, which has a busy taxi rank, and also a Metro station. You can take a Metro to the Haymarket (two stops) which is adjacent to the University. Alternatively, it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the University campus.
The other main coach and bus depots are at Haymarket (near the Metro Station), and Eldon Square (off Percy Street, near the Eldon Garden shopping centre). These cater mostly for journeys within the North East, and are almost next to each other.
Newcastle has an underground system, Metro, whose nearest station (Haymarket) is a fifteen minute walk from our offices.
If you need to telephone us then the office is on 0191 222 5888.
