Visitors: 16-17 Framlington Place is in the terraced properties opposite the entrance to the Medical School. Maps are available above which illustrate how to reach 16-17 Framlington Place on foot. The Faculty is at the North West edge of the University Campus. It take approximately 15 minutes to walk from the Haymarket Metro station to our building, and approximately 30 minutes from Central Station. |
Private transport: from the north or south, follow the A1 towards Newcastle. Leave the A1 (Western Bypass) at the junction with the A167/A696 and follow signs for the 'City Centre'. Take the A167 exit marked exactly 'Universities and Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)' which brings you on to Claremont Road, where there is a public car park. Please note that parking is not normally available on the University site but if our staff have confirmed that a space is available then the carpark is at the back of the building, 16-17 Framlington Place (immediately behind the North Terrace as indicated on the map).
After you turn off the motorway you see the Claremont Road roundabout which you should cross (straight ahead towards the Medical School) and turn immediately right. Our building is about 100m up on the left, with a big stained glass window visible from the road. The two visitors' parking spaces are immediately on the right as you enter the car park. Please buzz to be let in, sign the visitors book and use the phone adjacent to the visitors book to call us on x5888 (or use the telephone list on the wall for numbers for specific staff).
GNER East Coast Mainline, Virgin and Transpennine trains stop at Newcastle Central Station, which is a five minute taxi ride (the nearest major landmark to tell taxis to take you to is the entrance to the Medical School, then follow the directions above). Alternatively, you can take the Metro from Central Station to Haymarket (two stops), which is adjacent to the University.
Newcastle International Airport is only about seven miles north west of Newcastle University. A taxi from the Airport will take about 15 minutes, costing approximately £12. You can also travel by Metro train to the Haymarket, which will take about 25 minutes and cost around £2. The University is adjacent to Haymarket Metro Station and there are maps on campus, or telephone us as above.
Newcastle Coach Station is the main coach station for long distance journeys, and most intercity coaches terminate or drop off here. It is located near Central Station, which has a busy taxi rank, and also a Metro station. You can take a Metro to the Haymarket (two stops) which is adjacent to the University. Alternatively, it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the University campus.
The other main coach and bus depots are at Haymarket (near the Metro Station), and under Eldon Square (off Percy Street, near the Eldon Gardens shopping centre). These cater mostly for journeys within the North East.
Newcastle has an underground system, Metro, whose nearest station (Haymarket) is a fifteen minute walk from our offices.
