Gillian joined the School of Medical Sciences Education Development in February 2006 with a strong background in Project Management. She came to the University of Newcastle (joining Netskills) in May 1998 with 11 years experience within the Retail Banking Sector. Her duties there included supervisory, administrative, organisational and accounting skills. Her final project involved a major upgrade to the Retail Banking Platform; Gillian coached, supported and assisted staff in the use of new hardware and Microsoft applications as well as financial applications.

Gillian is a reviewer for The Clinical Teacher, a member of the Wikivet community of practice and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She offers specialist support for educators, as appropriate, in medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine on behalf of the Subject Centre.

Research interests

Gillian's role does not have a direct research component but her main interests include:

  • Web based strategies for disseminating good practice
  • Widening participation and accessibility for all
  • eLearning to enhance the student experience
  • Veterinary education and development
  • Dental care professions education

Gillian is currently working on sustaining the ACTOR community of practice, remembering to update her blog and trying not to eat too much chocolate.  In her spare time she likes music, dancing (qualified to teach), comedy, vampires, mythology, shakespeare, movies and pie. 

Oh, and chocolate.
