I got an email today about the latest chapter of an e-book that is being published through the Surrey Centre for Excellence in Professional Training and Education (SCEPTrE). I thought it looked really interesting. The full title of the book is 'Learning to be Professional through a Higher Education' and the latest chapter (CHAPTER C5) is entitled 'The Edge of Reality: Challenges facing educators using simulation to supplement students’ lived experience' by Edward Errington, James Cook University Queensland, Australia
A key point he makes with regard to simulation is that ... 'Despite a growing popularity, there is an apparent absence of discussion in the literature of the respective roles and prerequisite knowledge of the human agents involved in any simulation-based learning process. The result is an ‘objectified’ perception of simulation: ‘simply light the blue touch paper and the learning outcomes will be achieved’.' You can find the chapter at:
Incidentally the book is edited by Professor Norman Jackson and further contributions are welcomed so you may wish to contact Norman at normanjjackson@btinternet.com or at norman@challmountain.eu.
