Using Smartphone technology with foundation doctors: lessons learned

Add Using Smartphone technology with foundation doctors: lessons learned to your calendar

1 day event - 05 Jul 2012 from 11:00 until 15:00

The seminar will report lessons learned from the "iDoc" project. This initiative, supported by the Wales Deanery, provided trainee doctor participants across Wales with a Smartphone, micro SD-card and software containing 17 medical textbooks.

Lessons learned about how Smartphone technology may support education and training will be presented and discussed. The event will include demonstration of technology, case presentations of use, input from trainees/learners and facilitated discussion groups. Findings have relevance for: (a) medical educators (b) clinical staff and (c) trainees and students working in health care settings. Outcomes will inform future use of mobile technology in workplace-based learning.

By attending, participants will:

  • Recognise the potential of mobile technologies to support and enhance the work-based learning of trainee doctors, their teaching and patient care.
  • Develop knowledge about barriers and inhibitors to use.
  • Understand the role of mobile technologies within the wider context workplace information sources.
  • Appreciate the need for evaluation of (mobile) technology-enhanced learning in the workplace.
