New investigator awards

New Investigator Awards will support world-class researchers who are no more than five years from appointment to their first academic position, but who can already show that they have the ability to innovate and drive advances in their field of study. They should be able to articulate a compelling long-term vision for their research and demonstrate the talent, track record and originality to achieve it.

New Investigator Awards will provide support that is flexible and at a level and length sufficient to enable exceptional researchers to address the most important questions about health and disease.

* New Investigator Awards may be for up to seven years, and will provide a generous and flexible package of funding.
* A New Investigator Award might be in the range of £100k to £425k per year, depending on the needs of your research and your ability to justify the proposed costs.

Applications for Investigator Awards may be made from 1st October 2010. The closing date for the first round of applications is Monday, 22nd November 2010 (decisions in May 2011). Following Round 1, there will be no closing dates. Applications will be accepted at any time and processed on a rolling basis for consideration by Expert Review Group and Selection Panel meetings, which will be held four times a year.

Restrictions: Wellcome will be adding further details about these awards to their website over the coming months.
