Clinical research training fellowships (MRC/Kidney Research UK )

To encourage clinicians to become involved in research and to promote research of relevance to Kidney Research UK. Two fellowships per year will be awarded in a renal field under this new scheme, jointly funded by both the MRC and Kidney Research UK. The first joint award with the MRC is dedicated to individuals who wish to pursue research in the field of Experimental Medicine. At the pre-doctoral level, the fellowship provides a competitive personal salary up to but not including NHS consultant level, and a research training support grant of up to £15,000 per year (or £45,000 over the three year period). This may cover consumables, PhD fees, equipment, conference travel, other course fees; however, each item must be separately costed and justified. At the post-doctoral level, the fellowship provides a competitive personal salary, up to but not including NHS consultant level, research expenses, and travel costs at an appropriate level for the research, under full economic costs (FEC). The 2010 Round 2 closing date for applications is 17th September 2010. Short listing: January 2011. Interviews: 2nd-4th March 2011. Take up dates: March - August 2011. The 2011 Round 1 closing date for applications is 20th January 2011. Short listing: May 2011. Interviews 29th June - 1st July 2011. Take up dates: August 2011 – January 2012. Restrictions: Medical and dental graduate applicants should be at specialty registrar (StR) grade or below, or be at the equivalent level in general practice. Applicants are required to have completed MRCP (or equivalent) exams before taking up the award. Experienced StR grade applicants will preferably have worked for a period in a department where clinical research is in progress. Overseas applicants must receive confirmation of their equivalent status from the relevant UK Royal College. Nurses, midwives and members of the allied health professions must have completed their professional training and hold a Masters degree, or equivalent postgraduate research-oriented qualification. If you have started a PhD, you may apply for a fellowship only if, at the proposed start date, you have not been registered for more than 12 months full-time.
