To increase awareness of the use of social software to enhance the student learning experience
Participants will have the opportunity to share experiences, learn about the types of social software, actively explore several examples of social software and to consider how they can use social software in their teaching and learning activities.
To appreciate the potential of social software to enhance student learning
To experience a range of social software, including blogs, wikis, social networking and social bookmarking
To develop a personal action plan to introduce the use of social software to enhance student learning
John is senior lecturer in the Medical Education Unit in the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds and he is also academic lead for e-learning in the School of Medicine and Faculty VLE Co-ordinator. He has introduced blogs and wikis into both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He has widely published on the use of new technologies in medical education and presented at ASME and AMEE.
Christopher is involved in a JISC-funded project investigating the uses of social software and web 2.0 tools in both teaching and learning and widening participation
Beginners and more experienced users of social software in education will find this workshop useful. No technical background is required and the event will appeal both to academic teachers and learning technologists. However, please note that the primary focus is pedagogical.
