SSCs present and future - a response to GMC Tomorrow's Doctors consultation

Date: 1 day event - 13 Mar 2009 Add SSCs present and future - a response to GMC Tomorrow's Doctors consultation to your calendar

This workshop is now closed

Introduction

A revised version of Tomorrow's Doctors was circulated for consultation by the General Medical Council (GMC) in December 2008 with a closing date of March 27th 2009.

It's proposals have significant potential implications for the Student Selected Components (SSC) of the undergraduate curriculum.

The Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine (MEDEV) and the Northern Medical Schools Consortium (NMSC) are holding a national workshop of all medical schools to coincide with the consultation period of Tomorrow's Doctors.

The meeting will be held at the University of Leeds on Friday 13th March 2009. We have been advised that the GMC will be holding other, separate events aimed at securing general responses to the consultation, therefore this event pertains particularly to SSCs.

Aims

The aim of this meeting would be to explore and look at what the implications were for schools on the SSC curriculum components and provide a unified national response to the GMC consultation.
* To share experiences of student SSC selection on a national level.
* To document results in the context of the GMC Tomorrow's Doctors consultation (2008).

There will also be opportunities for discussion and sharing of practice and outcomes in relation to the project.
