Aims

The theme of this event is 'collaboration' and participants will explore four linked themes:

* Collaborative leadership: Leaders as 'boundary spanners' and co-ordinators

* Collaborative practice in professional development: sharing current challenges and new ideas in faculty development

* Exploring issues emerging for the community and sharing good practice

* Writing collaboratively and developing your publication strategy

Activities

These outcomes will be achieved through a mixture of: * Group work and plenary discussion sessions * Mini masterclasses on Collaborative leadership and Liminality ('the space between') * Small group work planning and carrying out collaborative writing

Proposed outcomes

By attending this event you will be enabled to:

1. Contribute to the development of an active community of practice of those interested in healthcare education leadership, both face to face and online

2. Develop your understanding of opportunities available for recognition and accreditation of your professional development activities and those of others

3. Learn more about and apply collaborative leadership concepts to your own practice

4. Participate in collaborative writing activities with the aim of producing shared outputs for publication and developing your publication strategy

5. Share current challenges and new approaches to staff/education development

6. Identify and discuss the key themes and issues of interest to the education development community

Facilitator background

The workshop will be led by Judy McKimm, Nigel Purcell and Faith Hill (with other colleagues) founded and have led the MEDEV series of leadership in education events since their inception in 2006.

Judy McKimm is Visiting Professor in Healthcare Education and Leadership at the University of Bedfordshire. She is an experienced educator who has primarily worked in health professions' education and faculty development. She has managed a number of high profile, national projects in leadership development and the higher education response to the children's service agenda.

Dr Faith Hill is Director of the Division of Medical Education at the University of Southampton. Faith leads a highly successful programme of staff development for over 2,000 clinical and academic teachers throughout the South Central NHS Region. She has over 50 publications on health and education and has run a variety of workshops at major national and international education conferences. Faith was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy earlier this year.'

Nigel Purcell is a Senior Education Advisor at the MEDEV subject centre and has considerable experience of faculty and education development in the field of health care education. Nigel is also an Accreditor for the Higher Education Academy.
