A customised Gilly Salmon four week online course from All Things in Moderation hosted and subsidised by the Subject Centre. Cost of £325 per delegate (the event is not VAT rated).
Gilly Salmon's popular e-moderating course is offered to health care educators in order to facilitate a better understanding of the potential for e-Moderating in a clinical teaching environment.
Participants will be able to take part in the 'e-tivities' designed to promote understanding of the role facilitating learning in the on-line environment, offering a chance to engage with peers who also work with clinical students. This course has run before and a write up is available in 01.11 edition of our newsletter.
This online course is fully web-based (browser) with a maximum of 18 people per course.
It is divided up into 5 sessions, each session relating to one stage in the 5-stage model. As a student in the course you will have weekly assigned reading (from the book E-moderating) and take part in a number of online activities. All Things in Moderation call them e-tivities. You will need some commitment. Approximately 25 hours overall spread over the 4 weeks.
The course is based on a group of lecturers working online together, so it really helps to start on time and continue to contribute throughout the 4 weeks.
The course encourages you to reflect on your ideas about e-moderating and those of others as you go about your usual every day work or in downtime- travelling or in the bath!
You will need good access to the Internet, preferably from both office and home, and a flexible and open approach to exploring e-learning.
You will not need a high level of technical skill to get started. If you can log on to Web sites you can access the course!
Those completing the course will receive a Certificate of Participation and Completion.
By completing the course you will:
* Gain familiarity and confidence in facilitating learning in an on-line learning environment
* Become a more competent online learner yourself
* Be able to implement a structured approach to building an on-line learning community
* Develop and practice strategies to support learners in on-line learning environments
* Develop and practice skills in designing learning activities (e-tivities!) which will work effectively in the on-line situation
* Appreciate the potential of computer mediated conferencing as a key teaching and learning resource.
* Reflect on and apply your pedagogical knowledge to the on-line learning situation
* Develop a personal plan to continue to increase your on-line teaching skills.

Nigel Purcell - Senior Education Advisor at the MEDEV Subject Centre Nigel has very extensive experience of education and staff development issues especially in the context of medical, dental and veterinary education. He has a strong interest and practical involvement in the use of technology to enhance learning. For example he initiated and leads MEDEV's Resource Archive for Teacher Training (RAFTT) blog/community of practice. His key concern in this area is the need to ensure that 'technology' enhances but does not 'drive' the learning.
Those currently involved in teaching and/or supporting on-line learning in a health care context or likely to be so in the future, whether experienced or novice.
Fully on-line course (web based)
