Curriculum Maps: what are they and why would we want one?

Date: 1 day event - 18 Oct 2006 Add Curriculum Maps: what are they and why would we want one? to your calendar

This workshop is now closed

Aims

The workshop would be primarily aimed at gathering interested parties to discuss these issues of definitions and needs rather than to disseminate 'expertise', since we are not sure it exists yet!

Activities

Demonstrations of existing maps and an overview of current developments. Sheffield and HYMS have committed to presenting and IVIMEDS, Dundee, Nottingham, Warwick and Aberdeen will be approached for possible contributions.
The GMC has agreed to send a representative to present their view of what such a map should do.

The afternoon will consist of groups discussing 1) the pedagogical and strategic requirements or possibilities of Curriculum Maps and 2) the technical possibilities, if any, for sharing a platform, structure, or conceptual framework for development of Curriculum Maps.

Proposed outcomes

Participants will be helped to:

* gain an increased understanding of how curriculum maps work and of current developments in the field
* review and evaluate the pedagogical and strategic requirements and possibilities of curriculum maps
* recognise the technical possibilities for sharing the development and use of curriculum maps

Shared views on issues arising from using curriculum maps

Output of group discussions

Written report on issues to be considered when attempting to design and implement a Curriculum Map.
