Workshop call - Eligibility and proposal form

Please note the information below is for information only.  We are not currently accepting workshop applications.

Proposals will only be accepted from staff teaching students registered on an HE course, including MSc and PhD degrees, in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine. Because of our remit specifed by our HEFCE funding, we regret we are not able to support Continuing Professional Development courses. Funds are allocated on the basis of a competitive bidding process, judged by a panel appointed by the Director, using the criteria described below.

All proposals should confirm that the subject centre Nominated Primary Contact for the appropriate medical, dental or veterinary school is aware of the workshop proposal (see full list). Workshop proposals may be copied to the relevant NPC (or NPCs) by the subject centre staff and if successful, NPCs will be required to countersign the contract with the subject centre.

Proposals for funding must be made on the subject centre application form.

Only fully completed proposal forms which reach us by the deadline, or a negotiated extension, will be considered for funding. Proposals sent by post should include 3 hard copies and be addressed to:

Criteria for evaluating proposals (for information only)

The general criteria to be applied in evaluating projects might include:

  • Completeness - Do we need further details of the proposal?
  • The nature of the development - Are the objectives clear? Does the proposer provide evidence of appropriate expertise to carry through the proposal?
  • Appropriateness - Is the development relevant to the constituencies Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine? What collaboration is proposed? What is the likely extent of take-up? What impact would take-up have on the quality or efficiency of learning, teaching or assessment?
  • Rationale and evaluation - Does the proposal include justification/evidence of need, and a rationale for embedding the development within teaching? Is evaluation of the effectiveness of the innovation included (where appropriate)? Has the proposer referred to relevant past projects (e.g. those listed in the projects database) and other work.
  • Dissemination - Are the dissemination plans appropriate for the development and its use?
  • Value for money - Is the funding requested justified? Is there any commitment from the hosting department, institution or other sources? Is the proposal good value for money? Is the proposed work feasible and practical? Is the timescale appropriate?
