Introduction

The Higher Education Academy's National Teaching Fellowship Scheme recognises and rewards individual excellence in teaching in higher education in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Fifty awards are made annually. The scheme began in 2000, with total funding per year of £2.5 million.

Up to 55 awards of £10,000 are made to recognise individual excellence. The award is intended for Fellows' professional development in teaching and learning or aspects of pedagogy. Nominations are invited from eligible institutions in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

What is 'National Teaching Fellowship Scheme'?

The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) is administered by the Higher Education Academy. It is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, and the Department for Employment and Learning in Northern Ireland.

From the Higher Education Academy

A call for nominations is made each year. These are peer reviewed and awards announced via the Academy website.

The Association of National Teaching Fellows, facilitates networking and promotes innovative practice, and is also supported by the Academy.

The NTFS project strand ran from 2007 to 2010. It was funded by HEFCE as part of its approach to teaching enhancement. While HEFCE carries out a review of this area, no new NTFS projects will be funded
