FAQ - How can I find out about virtual learning environments, managed learning environments, networked learning environments etc?

Answer

A database of over 300 products and tools is available from this website (originally commissioned by NHS IA) along with a long report and a short report on approaches the NHS might take to implementing a virtual managed learning environment, staff at LTSN-01 worked on this project. A very useful JTAP report (2001) is available which gives a framework for guidance in evaluating a VLE for your needs. The JISC has also commissioned a report (2002) on VLEs in HE, and a UCISA survey report (2001) of what VLEs institutions are using is available.

Most providers of VLEs will give access to a demonstration version of their product upon request, and many will give a live demo by arrangement. There are also examples of good practice in medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, some of which are described in the LTSN-01 good practice database.
