FAQ - I am interested in learning more about portfolios and logbooks in clinical education.

Answer

Definitions of some of these terms have been compliled for us. A report by Judy McKimm of Imperial College on the use of portfolios in professional development in medical education is available from our website. This involved a literature review looking at the use of portfolios in medicine (undergraduate and postgraduate), dentistry, HE and in specific academic disciplines, teacher training, social work, the police and other health professions. There is a SHEFC funded project entitled MAPPING - Multimedia Approach to Profiles and Portfolios: Interactive Guidance. Nottingham University has a lot of experience in creating paper based portfolios through the PADSHE project and has been working with the Faculty of Medicine Computing Centre at Newcastle University to develop internet-PARs (internet Personal and Academic Records). The Centre for Recording Achievement has materials of use. Also see the FDTL-4 project- 'Managed environments for portfolio based reflective learning' at eportfolios, which is lead by Newcastle University.

There is an extended list of resources available in pdf or word format.
