Glossary - Basic science years

Term: Basic science years

Definition: A term that usually refers to the initial two years of a medical school's program. However, in some schools, this may entail more or less than two years. With the introduction of new learning methodologies such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and early exposure to patients, basic science learning has become more integrated with clinical instruction and the division between basic science years and clinical years has eroded.
