FAQ - What information have you collected on Health and Safety for student placements/work based experience?

Answer

This is a difficult topic to find out information about, and it very much depends on institutional guidelines, and relationships with the NHS Trusts, including the Primary Care Trusts.  Most H&S guidance is embedded in course study guides, practical work (e.g. clinical skills bloods).  MEDEV can sourse a set of course guides from the Newcastle University MBBS programme if you wish to see examples of how this is done.

The Health and Safety Executive publishes generic guidelines for health and safety when students are on work experience. The Universities and Colleges Employers Association(UCEA) has a number of useful publications which can provide guidance on a range of H&S issues relating to students and the workplace.
