Glossary - Accessibility compliance

Term: Accessibility compliance | Type: Other

Definition: Accessibility compliance means meeting the standards that allow people with disabilities to access information online. Persons with disabilities (e.g. the blind) use a device to 'read' the screen.

Accessibility for persons with disabilities entails providing for a version that can be processed by a screen reader such as JAWS. Many screen readers have difficulty rendering frames, tables, and images (without alt text tags). The practical accessibility difficulties are compounded by the fact that many persons with disabilities do not have the recent equipment and software.
